I am such a delinquent blogger

seriously. I am in a bit of a post-spring break funk. creatively stunted. tired 24-7. eating every oreo in sight so I don't really have to deal with my lack of a life. spring break was really great - I got some stamping in there, some walking done, some cleaning finished. this past week has zapped me though. gotta love deadlines at work.

regardless, I have made a few things and taken some pics of the kids...so in lieu of the chit chat I would normally have at this point, here are the pics!!

clean space...

I cleaned up downstairs last night. new shelves, some things got moved and I actually had a clean desk for 24 hours. and then, I did kristina's colour challenge and my desk is a mess AGAIN! alas, the results were pretty good, I think! this is what happens when you have ethiopian coffee at 8:00 at night...WOOHOO!!!! yeah, good stuff. perhaps sleep will come, but I think I will stay up and watch george first...yumm-o!

so, here's my card...not a single stamp to be had, but some great paper, WONDERFUL felt flowers and some SU! bling.

a smattering of pics from this weekend...

the mug ones were taken this morning, as the boys were enjoying some chocolate milk in their new easter mugs...what posers. unlike sunday morning. couldn't get a good picture of them both just being nice & smiling to save my life. grrr!!!

little effort, great reward

so in an effort to be a better mom, the boys and I went on an adventure this morning. after the night we had last night [no one really slept for any significant length of time], my big plan was to lay low and not leave the house [then I wouldn't really need to shower, dress, put contacts in...]. but because I am working harder to set my kids up for behavioural success, I got up and fed them a decent breakfast [cheerios and milk - way better than the chocolate breakfast of yesterday!] and we decided we needed to go on an adventure. so, rubber boots on our feet, sunglasses intact, hoodies on our heads, we set out for the iga [yes, I know, it's only 4 blocks away!!]. okay, so this wasn't a big adventure, but considering it is often just easier to stay home and not meet the day, it was a "sorta" adventure! ty wore my sunglasses and found a stick in the neighbour's yard and nate wore his leg warmers and his own sunglasses! okay, so it may be 4 degrees out...but the wind is COLD! so we trek to the iga, get the few groceries we need, stop at connie's for a minute on the way back, then get into the car to finish off our adventure! the car part was part of the plan, since I knew that ty would never make it all the way to blockbuster and back [5 blocks in the opposite direction of iga!]. so, each of the boys got to pick a video and I picked up "no country for old men" since everyone I've talked to seems to rant and rave about this movie. then a short walk over to second cup for coffee, and back in the car for the 2 minute drive home!

seems fairly insignificant, rather ordinary morning, but we had a fun time and now ty is sound asleep [LOVE nap time!!]. all is well. and as I look at my dirty floor, I know that it can wait for a broom...opportunities to hang out with the kids and "look for signs of spring" [nate's words!] in the neighbourhood was definitely the better choice.

here I go again...

I have run out of blog titles!!

finally, I have two little boys that both got close to 14 hours of sleep each. and shockingly, I like them today [wonder if that's a coincidence!!]. yesterday was not my best mom day. both boys were cranky [sleep deprived and they refused to eat anything but easter treats...yeah, ty found a box of whoppers at 8am yesterday morning...that should have been a sign]. I couldn't pay ty to eat anything of substance yesterday. needless to say, not my best mom day on many, many counts. I did, however, get loads of stuff done yesterday [because I have the BEST husband in the world...he took both boys after church to his mom's house for several hours!]. groceries are bought, shower present bought [I've been invited to two showers this week - it's a BABY BOOM!! - and I was sad that I couldn't make it to tyson's party], easter treats bought, coffee was consumed and I did an hour's walk.

makes me think. while I was walking I was listing to al gordon speak on leadership and he said to list your goals/priorities for your life. then he said that above all plans that we make with our lives, that our families and kids must come first in order to experience success anywhere else. this is totally contrary to how most people view authentic leadership. there are many priorities on my list [save the world, change the world, lose weight, be the best in my profession] I need to put my kids and my family before these things. I've been struggling with meaning in my life. at the beginning of lent, I quoted the scripture "trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not, on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight" [the cori version of the NLT]. and in trying to live this out the message I have heard through all of this is this: I am in the right place. so, instead of being the person who saves all the starving children in sudan, I need to be a great mom to my own children right here. I need to be a support to my kids at school. I need to get my head out of my arse and be a good friend.

so, here I begin again; well maybe not begin altogether, but I need to get my head back in the game and my feet back on the right path. and when I sit in church tomorrow morning, reflecting on the significance of the day, I will be there with a full, thankful heart.

trying something new!

I made this new video, and tried to make it just love my blog. yeah. totally didn't work! so, let's try this... CLICK HERE!

you can't always get what you want

yes, the song is cranked and ty has spatulas and a drum set made with a bucket turned over; nate has a wooden fork to play guitar on. my kids, the musicians! [oh and both are wearing eskimo jerseys!!].

the last week [or so] has been pretty hectic...totally playing catch up on all I missed in the 5 days I was vacationing. although I am looking forward to the 4 day weekend, I am looking even more forward to spring break. 5 days of NO SCHOOL. NO KIDS. just me, my house, my cleaning supplies, my garbage bags and a stack of books. all is well when I can clean & purge my house in peace! oh, and I need to strap my runners on and walk every day for the next 6 weeks. yeah. the race is in only 6 weeks. time to get my buttola in gear!!

off to sit and read. I am sure enjoying that the sun is staying out until close to 8pm.

palm springs

well, after a SUPER long day, I am safely at home! palm springs was super relaxing, and a worthwhile trip. we shopped everyday, I read 2 books, I cuddled julian, drank tons of coffee...it was all good! and although I am super tired, I feel relaxed and happy to be home. and since I took out my camera for the first time today [yeah, it sat in my suitcase the WHOLE trip], I only have a handful of pics...these are the view from the back of the house!

lots of little things

I am so thankful that I have a wee holiday coming up this next week. it's a well timed break. I drank too much last night, and paid the price this morning! I feel displaced this week and a bit out of sorts - all because I read a stupid book. okay, so the book is far from stupid, but it's thrown me off course. I am 35 years old. I shouldn't really be having this much uncertainty about my life. I usually stuff all this away and just keep living my same old boring life. don't know if I can do it this time. I read the book "what is the what" and now I am a bit obsessed with everything I can read on the sudan. I am just so unsure of what to do with it all.

on another note, the non-plan has been no-plan this week...too many treats, not enough fiber. I have made this observation though: when I don't follow the non-plan, I don't feel so hot. back to the non-plan, dude!!

teachers convention - day 1

I love teachers convention - I get to reconnect with old friends and just hang out with some really nice people. today, I got to see Rabbi Shmuley who was TOTALLY AWSOME! I wish I had more time to tell all the stories, but I need to get the kids packed up...off to our small group tonight. more convention tomorrow!!

so tired

why are short weeks always so long? mmmm.

made some cards today...nate helped me, since the one card is for his little friend! enjoy!!

Friday, February 22, 2008

one of THOSE days

one of those crazy-deadline-sit-in-meetings-roll-your-eyes kind of days. the kind of day that gets 14g of fiber and 3 treats. the rough day on the non-plan. they do exist. I am so tired of being sick, and being tired, and cleaning the house. being tired always makes me want to eat junk. I need to get some sleep, and begin again [or not begin again!] tomorrow. lots of deadlines this upcoming week, so I think I'll be at school tomorrow doing report cards...one thing out of the way!

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

well THAT explains it!

yup. I should have seen a doctor on friday. before the long weekend of coughing hell. I honestly thought it would go away, like colds do. today I finally admitted that this was NOT your garden-variety cold. and the doctor agreed. it's bronchitis. the kind that likes to lead to pneumonia if you're not careful. thank goodness for drugs and prescription cough medicine with codeine. I am just waiting for it to kick in so that I can sleep in my bed for the first time in 5 days. poor john is just exhausted...not as exhausted as me, mind you!

anyways, I'm on the mend. all will be well again, in the fraser household!

new things!!!!

most of these are made with the new berry bliss paper...that I LOVE!!! and the others...well a sneak peak of what is coming in the new mini! [silver hardware & die cut blossoms!!]

how I hate

being sick. I don't get sick like this super often, so when it hits, it's nasty. and somehow, with all the coughing [the dry, hacking, can't catch your breath type] I've strained my neck. grrr. and this afternoon, in the middle of class, I had a strange eye thing happen...my pupils decided not to adjust to the sunlight. crazy huge pupils, causing that sort of eye thing you get after going to the eye doctor and getting "THE" drops. just not cool. I went home early, then felt okay. this whole cold thing is just getting stupid. I am holding off taking some more meds, since I'd like to take my next dose closer to bed time...because tonight I NEED, NEED, NEED to sleep!

as far as the non-plan goes...it is going well. a good week of moderate, happy, guilt-free eating. kinda crazy how less stressed I feel about the whole thing...no more sneaking food, fueling the "last supper" mentality. it's all good.

and although I am sitting at my desk, hoping to create some lovely things with some lovely new things, I am thinking that I should be thinking about bed.

a full day

well, I weighed myself this morning...down 2lbs [I'll do my measurements tonight and NOT post them!]. I am officially on my "I-have-no-real-plan-so-don't-ask-me-about-the-plan" plan. seriously. I am calling this one the non-plan. exercise as per the usual [as in, I'm training], make sure I get 25 grams of fiber per day, drink 2-3L of water, and eat one treat per day. I will do a weigh/measure again on easter monday. there is a lot of trust I have to have with myself in order to not have a plan. trust that my body will tell me when I am hungry and full. trust that my body will get healthier, knowing it will be fed. trust that I don't have to sabotage a plan, when we're on the non-plan. I'm strange. I know. off to class tonight, were I will pay someone money to torture my muscles. life is good.

40 days of lent

lent began this week. 5 weeks until easter.

I have a theme verse for this year: 'trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not, on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight". okay, so that is the cori version of the verse...the way I remember it. the new living translation says: trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. seek his will in all you do and he will direct your paths [proverbs 3:5-6]. I have been thinking a lot about how this impacts my life - how I think, live, speak, listen. and I have been thinking about it in regards to my diet/eating/food issues. I know God cares about this whole issue. so, how do I reconcile all of it? well something came to me today. I am still living my life as I was 10 years ago - a life of self-loathing, hatred, arrogance, selfishness. now, I know that I have turned away from that past life, yet I seem to wander in that desert of complaining, as did the israelites, thousands of years ago. I need to remember what I've come from, in order to get to where I am going. the where I'm going part has nothing to do with a number on a scale. I have been so obsessed with the "pseudo-goal" that I have once again neglected the true goal - my soul-health. I am still working this all out in my head...but I will keep you posted. [it's heading to a place of "in all things moderation"]. off to go walk 6.7k with my mom & joy. the training has really begun!

a mug of happiness

sometimes some peppermint schnapps, hot chocolate & whipped cream can make me happy! the kids have a drink too, just no schnapps...

new paper, new projects, and huge issues

the title says it all. grrr. got my berry bliss paper last night [I was invited to a neighbor's SU! party where I was NOT the demo, so I ordered a pack of paper at her show]. it is SOOOOOO lovely! I'll have to challenge myself to make something "perdy" with it tonight!

I am attaching some pics of projects I've done lately...thanks to felice, rae & I mass produced the "wild about you" version of the valentines for our kids. a sucker attaches to the back...a great idea and super easy to make [okay, so tying 40 ribbons was getting stupid..]. we really liked the glitter that felice had on her project, but we skipped it just to save time. we did use the dotted wheel on ours as well, only with versamark [so it doesn't show in this picture]. the little cello-bag-holder-thingy was a project we did at make & take night!

and then there are my issues, witch are strongly attached to why I haven't blogged as of late. not too sure if I have the energy to reflect on my crappy eating week, all my own doing. there is no one to blame but myself. so, I will wallow today and pull my sh*t together tomorrow and all will be okay. maybe I will have some reflections on this tomorrow.

thankful thursday

it is thursday. I am thankful. this is all good.

although it's been CRAZY COLD, I am thankful that we made it through the -40ish pieces in one shape. monday was nuts with one car not working, but really...it's all good. I got tons done at school, since there's yet to be a day with full classes, that too was a big blessing. I feel like I am finally on my game, and not behind it. so, cold weather...can be a happy thing.

and the weight thing. walking this week has sucked [yeah, not doing it in THIS weather!], but the eating hasn't been too bad. well, other than the HUNK of chocolate cake I just ate. I lost 1 pound this week, so I am at a -4. this is good. this is really good. I have some pics to post...those will come tomorrow, since I'm SOOOOOO tired!

Monday, January 28, 2008

-46 degrees

is officially cold. it's never been that cold here, in my lifetime. that's -50 degrees F. wow. and when it's THIS cold, it's all we talk about. I only had 3 kids in my class show up today, john's car refused to start, I unintentionally parked my car in 2 feet of powder, I needed 4 jr high students & 2 teachers to get me out of the snow drift, it took me close to an hour to get home...fun!

I have a make & take tomorrow night - and tomorrow is suppose to be colder than today. extra fun!

but for tonight, the cars are plugged in, and my plan B is in place. and I am EXHAUSTED!

so, on this super cold january night, I have but 2 words for you: keep warm!

Friday, January 25, 2008

some times a stiff drink

makes things a bit better. especially when the drink is a lovely chocolate martini. sometimes I feel like I take on the weight of the world. in doing that, I lose myself. in losing myself, I am no good to anyone. things have been better since wednesday, especially with my eating. things aren't perfect, but the time to give up is NOT when things get rough. I just can't deal with failure. I just don't want to fail yet again. not an option this time. and in light of all things good and special, my issues are small. I have a saviour. a God who cares even about my measly little things. a creator who sees past all my issues. a strength and a joy that comes from a place that is bigger than me. and although it's not "thankful thursday" [hehehe!!], today I am just thankful that I am who I am. it's all good [I said good, not perfect...that's still a ways away!].

a crazy couple of days

something is up with me. my head doesn't feel right. my body is out of sinc. I am so crazy tired. ALL OF THE FLIPPIN' TIME! and I am NOT pregnant. so don't even go there. I actually had john hide EVERY stinkin' piece of chocolate while I was out tonight. mainly, because with the way I'm feeling, I could sit in the closet and eat every last piece.

grrr. if you can figure out my issues, let me know!

well, I figure I am going to beat down this nastiness. I went to exercise class twice this week...mainly because I weighed myself on tuesday and NOTHING [oh, and my lovely husband nearly kicked me out of the house when he heard that I was wanting to skip class]. I am SO discouraged. then, at my class some random lady asked me if I had lost weight. I could have kissed her! so, I worked harder than I ever have worked before and my ass hurts more than anything. I am going get this nasty food addiction under control and I am going to beat my sorry ass into shape because I DESERVE IT. however, I cannot do it alone. I am so tired of battling this bad-mind-self-talk-crazy-crap. can I go upstairs and crawl into my bed and start fresh tomorrow?? NO...because we are watching FNL again!

Sunday, January 20, 2008

all things good

we added a new puppy to our house...sam. he is SOOOOOOO cute & nate is totally smitten! he is steph's dog, but we are quite happy to have him around! also, tonight is ty's first night in a bed. the crib is gone...hope it all goes well! I am thinking that my bed is feeling like it is calling me...it's been a LONG day!

oh, and if you want to be in ribbon club...let me know. $13 will get you this sweet baby!! [1 yard of each of the taffeta ribbons and 1 yard of each of the stripped grosgrain ribbons...and the cool jar!] let me know if you want one and if you live in town, shipping does not exist!! LOL

have a great evening everyone!

+/-

okay, so I shouldn't be so scared all the time. today I was +/-0. gained nothing, lost nothing. considering the crap I ate last week, this is ALL good.

today has been better. life is good. oh, and new cards to post - LOVE the new SU! felt flowers!!! will post again later!

simple card

a simple birthday card [made it for my dad for his birthday in a mere 10 minutes]. tomorrow is weigh in day and I am totally stressed about it, since this week has been AWFUL. has it been pre-christmas awful? no, but still awful. I totally did not stick to my program. I did walk this weekend though - 3k on saturday and almost 5k on sunday. I'll report back tomorrow.

Saturday, January 12, 2008

busy

it's been a busy couple of days. not too sure what I've been up to, but it just feels like it was wednesday, and now it's saturday! I have had a few rotten eating days. damn toblerone. actually, it was far too early in the journey to be handed a toblerone by one of my students on the first day of school, and have the ginormous chocolate bar see the end of the week. grrr. that and a few outings [meals not at my house] are a recipe for disaster!

alas, all is not lost. I found my old school paper weight on my desk this morning and it says "never never never quit" [winston churchill]. so, on this lovely saturday morning, I will say the same thing. I will not quit. I will not be beat. I will choose to forge my path. I will hold on. persevere.

and although, it is not thursday, I will do my thankful thursday, since I forgot [how sad, second week in!!]. today I am thankful for 2 year old cuddles. fingers in his mouth, curled up in a ball, snuggling in like he always has. tender moments with ty make parenting the not so tender moments a bit easier.

Tuesday, January 08, 2008

not too shabby!

down 3 pounds this week. hard work DOES pay off. now I just gotta just stick with it. speaking of which, I should go and make my lunch for tomorrow!! not too sure who said it, but I agree wholeheartedly: "when you fail to plan, you plan to fail". off to go plan!
happy, happy!

Monday, January 07, 2008

tried a new thing

yeah, still not in bed.

wanna see a funny video of my kids?? click here!

tomorrow's the big day

tomorrow is the start of week 2...and weigh-in day. I am terribly nervous, although I have been doing some non-official weigh-ins. it's actually 9pm already, and my body aches from my workout tonight...so maybe I will just go read in bed. I'll let you know how it goes!

Saturday, January 05, 2008

new, fun things

I played with some new things tonight [non-SU!], after prepping for my open house [tomorrow!!]...some great paper called "ba, ba, black sheep collection" by piggy tales, some bellas , my new spica glitter markers from amuse, and primas that I got from erika [like FOREVER ago!]. oh, and some thickers [because they always look uber cool on kristina's blog!]

had some bella issues - like getting them inked, but I was happy overall!

national pride and the WJ's

there is nothing that instills canadian pride and brings a bit of a tear to my eye, as when the boys win gold. world junior cup of hockey is some amazing hockey, and the gold metal game is never one that is missed in our house! canada just beat sweden in overtime. SWEET! I have to say though, I am rather sad for the swedish goalie - who after letting in the winning goal just laid on the ice with such regret. I guess the canadian jersey comes out of the closet for school on monday. I do love being canadian, on so many levels. and today, I am proud to have the red & white represent on the national stage. and in a couple of wee moments, they'll play the anthem. love, love, love!

EEEKKKK!

my new SU! website is UP & RUNNING!!

OH S**T!

I totally forgot about my whole THANKFUL THURSDAY plan!

well, today I am thankful for a great 4 year old who totally tries my patience, is a totally wuss when he fights with his brother, gets the itchies on his back & needs magic cream, likes to have a cuddle-cuddle before bed, needs to give hugs and kisses in double and likes to fall asleep on the couch!

oh, and some pics!

christmas & some cards [with some new catty stuff...hehehe!!]

mmmm...

I WANT SOME CHOCOLATE!!! I feel like I've been hungry all day, although I shouldn't really be hungry at all. not enough water, too many veggies. LOL it's really a no win situation! carrots will never taste like chocolate. nor will broccoli or tomatoes. grrr. brian wansink calles this "the Tyranny of the Moment". you can make all the plans you want, but until new habits are formed, plans can easily be tossed aside by emotions. the whole "oh, I'm out for coffee, I can just have one treat" or "I can walk twice the distance tomorrow" hits when life gets busy and emotional. although today hasn't been so emotional, I am currently fighting the urge to fight my tiredness with food.

there are some habits that can begin to change, being replaced with better habits - things that will easily knock a couple of hundred calories off my plate [pun intended!!]:
#1: the half plate rule - half of my plate will be veggies or a salad, the other half will be the rest of the meal. or with how I cook, the top half will be veggies!
#2: 20% more & less - 20% more veggies [hence the wish that veggies tasted like chocolate] and 20% less of everything else.
#3: pre-portion serving sizes - take things out of the packages and put them in baggies, or put a serving on a plate, then put the rest away.
[all of these ideas are courtesy of brian wansink's mindless eating]

I think I will go to bed early [like after er, 'cause it's a gooder!!] and try to reboot the system for tomorrow...the more I think of it, hunger & a belly full of fiber feel vaguely similar!

Tuesday, January 01, 2008

day 1

sucked BIG TIME! okay, not totally. slept in, had a good breakfast, FORGOT to eat lunch [what is up with that???], was a bit TOO hungry when we got to my mom & dad's and ate a few treats. and then I had a bowl of soup and a lovely bun. okay, so I ate a few things more than I had planned, but I guess I should cut myself some slack - I ate WAY less than I usually do!

THEN, I came home and ate a whole twix bar because I was having a stress moment. and because it was there. grrr. I did count it, which means the rest of the week I will have to be uber good with my points! but, on a totally good note, I have had a TON of water today. and since that really was my goal for today, then GOOD FOR ME!

and my quote for the day is this: do not "try" or "hope" for results. either do it or don't.

more purging!

so, today I did the cupboards - the pantry, actually. I got rid of a ton of old stuff & rearranged everything else. and it was a good eating day...until susan showed up with cake!! nah, when you know that you are going to enjoy some good food and drinks with friends, then being careful all day totally pays off.

tomorrow is new years day. hopefully I can just stick to the plan and drink a ton of water. I am also hoping that I have a few minutes to take a walk [and that the weather is nice enough!].

and what is the plan?? well, I registered myself for the vancouver marathon in may. and before you get all concerned about my mental heath - I am registered to walk the half marathon. there are 18 week between now and then. so, I am committing to 18 weeks of vigorous training. 18 weeks to retrain my body, so it can walk 21k, retrain my head so that I start eating like an athlete and retrain my muscles so they can assist with the shedding of some of this extra poundage that I am walking around with. so, as of today, I am an athlete in training. and the tape of negative self talk that usually plays in my head has 18 weeks to get reprogrammed. I have a goal of 2 pounds lost per week and I am going to accomplish this in two ways: eat less. move more. this week I am working on getting 2L of water in me every day. because I have a half way point. in 9 weeks, I am going on a mini vacation with my mom & sisters. in 9 weeks, I plan to fit into the size 14 jeans I bought yesterday.

now, I never buy clothes that are too small, but in an effort to try something new to kick start myself, I bought these GREAT jeans [and they were uber cheap] in a size too small. I plan to wear them to palm springs, with my super cute, also currently too small, zebra hoodie. that means, I need to kick it into high gear over the next 9 weeks - 18lbs is the plan. 189lbs is the plan. you do the math. that would put me just a bit lower than where I was when I shmuked my ankle last spring. phew! THAT is the current mini plan.

off to connie & scott's for some wii & wine. hugs and smooches, friends. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

NYE & the great purge

be warned...it's a long one!!

I am SO not the new years resolution person. I figure it's a bunch of nonsense and trouble - unrealistic expectations and big let downs. however, I am having a bit of a moment about it today. a bizarrely contrary moment, at that.

went to church this morning & we did something a bit different. first, there was opportunity for people to share what they were thankful for. then we had opportunity to go up to the front and smell some incense [I totally can't remember what it was, but seems to me dean said it was something that would have been in the temple] and pray a prayer of repentance. then we went to the other side of the stage and washed our hands in a basin, to symbolize a fresh start. there is something that always resonates with my spirit when I do a physical or public act of repentance; like the many, many people that have gone before me and participated in acts of atonement, knowing that God is merciful and forgives.

I am reminded of the day of atonement or yom kippur - a Jewish holiday that is usually remembered usually in september. a day where a fast is kept, and sins between man & God are atoned. it originally comes from levitical law [lev. 16:29-30] and has been kept by jews since then. I am so moved by the idea that it has been celebrated for thousands of years by thousands upon thousands of people. it, for the jews, is honoured as a "new years" of sorts - a spiritual cleansing that leads to a new start [not to be confused with rosh hashanah, the day that is celebrated typically as the jewish new year!]. well, today was my day of atonement.

when I think upon this past year, I know where I went wrong. it's the same place where I always go wrong. I think I know best. I am selfish and self-indulgent. and it's wrecking me, my health and my ability to be a good wife & mother. I feed my soul with food and shopping. and finally, today, some reprieve. forgiveness. atonement. for the first time in a really long time, I feel freed. lighter somehow. although, the road back is going to be a long, laborious one, I feel like I somehow have the energy to fight back.

SO, this year, I am going to make some new years resolutions.
1. my weight and my health are going to take the #1 spot on my scheduled list of priorities. I know that john has my back on this & is my biggest fan. it's all good.
2. I am going to pull a susan! I am going to host "thankful thursday" on my blog. she was doing it a while ago, but I was thinking that I would pick one lone thing that I am thankful for and give it some air time.
3. I am going to purge my house of the clutter - toys, unused clothes, crap food in the cupboard. I started today, and will be continuing all week!

and, I refuse to just make some resolutions and keep them as such - more on the how it's going to happen...tomorrow!

good

a good chrismas and a good martini.

christmas is always so super busy and wild, this christmas was no different. I survived playing for 2 christmas eve services. we had a nice time with john's mom on christmas eve as well - it is so much nicer with the boys being a bit older this year. nate & I also went to my uncle hank's on christmas eve [john took ty home to bed!]. by the time I got home, nate was pretty zonked. john had washed and vacuumed all the floors, so I just had food prep to do & stockings to fill. not too bad overall!

all of my family was over for christmas morning [hence the food prep on xmas eve!]...I am thinking that 5 pots of coffee were made & enjoyed, 2 pans of french toast were eaten, 20 or so presents opened [5 of which were remote controlled vehicles!] and tons of pictures taken by other people! everyone was gone by noon or so and we spent some time chilling with the boys.

by 4:30, we were all at my mom & dad's for dinner [12 adults, 5 kids and 1 newborn]. it was a nice time visiting with everyone, holding the new baby, watching all the kids play together. I have to say, for all the planning stress that comes with christmas, it was a nice time [even though it was 2 days full of family!!!].

and then there is boxing day. although john and I hardly ever do any boxing day shopping, we do some boxing day sleeping in! john basically spent the day setting up the boy's playmobil sets [nate got a pirate ship set & ty got a knights/castle set - I couldn't find pictures of their exact sets]. and I did nothing. hehehe! well, that's a lie. I made a "trip to coralee's" playlist for my itouch [that was my "official" christmas present, although I've had it for a week or so!] since the boys and I are heading to st paul's tomorrow morning to spend a day/night with coralee.

oh, and I made a killer martini. 2 parts vodka, 1 part creme de cocoa, 1 part peppermint schnapps. shake over ice, pour, shave some milk chocolate on top! yumm-o!!

reflections on a christmas eve morning

I have slept. it's amazing to me how a good night's sleep can change my outlook dramatically. and this morning, I sit here - watching the boys play & watch "cars" for the kazillionth time - listening to sarah mclachlan sing "noel". I wonder why I purchased this album, since I really don't like it.

phew! itunes has graciously changed to mariah! not too sure what's better.

but I have digressed, because what I really came to talk about is the most excellent cup of coffee that I made this morning. now, I enjoy good coffee. I enjoy strong coffee. but perfect coffee is the right mix of savory & robust, no bitter aftertaste. phil, one of the student teachers at our school this last term, gave me a pound of starbucks espresso [espresso regalo] beans, ground for an old school espresso maker. well, today I tried my hand at my own americano - espresso with boiling water...and the product: DELISH!

I guess to me, it's something like taking time to smell the roses. I haven't been taking the time to enjoy my coffee - or anything else, for that matter. maybe that's why I've been feeling so yucked lately. sorta numb and rather out of control. I have had little patience with my kids, less patience with my husband, and no patience with myself. my emotions seem out of control and I am reigning them in with food. I am so sick and tired of this spiral. so tired.

so at this crazy, busy, wonderful time of year, I am going to forget about all the things I didn't do. I am going to not feel guilty over the cards I didn't send and the phone calls that haven't been made. and I am going to just be. be amazed by the truth that my God loved me so much that he sent his son, the divine clothed in the skin of a wee baby - a baby that would change the course of history. and that his name would be Immanuel - God with us. prince of peace. wonderful counselor. christ the lord. and when I play "silent night" tonight, and my heart has a chance to be calm, I am going to just be in that moment. Jesus came so that lives could be changed. and mine needs some serious changing. o come, o come emmanuel.

all of this because of a cup of coffee.

have a blessed, peace-filled day.

happy christmas eve eve

the day before the day before christmas. the gifts are bought & mostly wrapped. groceries are in the fridge. a few small stops tomorrow, then the party begins.

as usual, I am feeling sick [always the christmas sore throat & cough!], and at 841 on sunday evening, I feel like I should be in bed. how totally sad is THAT?

it's almost as sad as not mailing out a single christmas card.

I had some cool, interesting thoughts to share [okay, so cool & interesting in my brain!] but I can't seem to get my words sorted. perhaps I can unfog my brain tomorrow over a cup of coffee!

have a happy christmas eve tomorrow and try not to get too bogged down by the craziness that can be christmas!

making a list, checking it twice...

I do well with lists. always have. it has taken me until the 9th of december to make a list of all the gifts I need to send & buy and all the cards that need to go out in the next few days. I have been buying random gifts, thinking that I am sorta on the right track. yeah no. I did some on-line shopping today and I am hoping that things come in on time. how many days left??

and on a totally other note...nate had his recital today. the pictures say it all. he did such a great job and I was so proud of him! I have video footage as well...will take some time to figure that out!

random tuesday thoughts

december is going a bit too quickly for my liking. I know it is only the 4th, but it seems crazy that monday is the 10th already. I need to get my christmas card pictures done. I need to get my christmas cards done. I need to buy some gifts. just seems a bit nuts.

I have some happy things though [mainly because the cold is making me rather miserable...the backs of my arms are cold...grrr]: I ordered an ipod touch. hehehe! I really like my ipod nano - the wee thing has done me well over the last year, but I do use it a lot and I was wanting an upgrade...SO, after consulting my brother [who has one] and my husband [who still was needing to buy me something for christmas], I ordered one. it should be here on monday. secondly, turns out that the whole lost ring business is all going to be okay. I am going in to get my finger sized for the new ring...turns out that the insurance company works with the same jeweler who originally made the ring. it is all going to be okay. AND, I was hoping that my new phone would be here today [long story about how and why I am getting a new one, but it has to do with john losing his at a football game], since john got his last week already. I am a bit bitter about mine not being here yet. alas, my husband just walked in..

stay warm & dry everyone!

so many complications

1. our computer is broken. this makes me sad, since it was like an old friend. reliable, safe, predictable. the things I needed were there. although about 95% of our stuff had been backed up, my contact list in outlook had not been. grrr. we have since moved steph's computer from her office into our space, since she is not using it. I am really wanting a mac. we're going to start saving.

2. school is good. school is busy. I am not liking busy. I create my own reality - my own schedule. in doing that I have WAY TOO MUCH on my plate. too many commitments, not enough time to do coffee with my friends. too much fluff, not enough qt with my boys. as a result, I have gained 15lbs in the last few months. I am not feeling good about myself and am therefore not taking care of myself. I took a day off this week and had some me time. that was a good, good thing. I need a plan. a real plan. a plan that will force me into submitting. a plan that will kick my fat ass. SO, this week I will track my points on ww everyday. I will drink 8 glasses of water every day. I will go to exercise class on monday. I will do these 3 things and be okay with that.

3. christmas. feeling okay with the busyness here. I have lots of things I still have to do to get ready for christmas, but here, on this first day of december, I know I have 23 more days to get them done!!!

4. the weather here sucks right now. it is SUPER cold. that just makes me grumpy.

5. huising family christmas get-together tomorrow, parent-teacher interviews on thursday, gingerbread party for the kids on saturday, nate's music recital next sunday. jam packed. I can do this. I can be busy and be okay.

6. blogging is therapeutic. so is stamping. must do both more.

a little bit of this...and a little bit of that!

I think I have lost all 6 of my readers with the lack of action on my poor blog. sorry everyone. school is going well; it's that crazy-report-card-never-ending-pre-christmas time of the year, but still it is good. I like good.

I haven't really felt like I've had a ton of stamping time, but I made some super-fly paper bows [check e's blog...she's got a picture and a link to the tutorial] and I did a scrapbook page. we are having some fun computer issues as of late, so taking & posting pictures is a bit trying right now [grrr!].

let's see...other new things. john & I had a date night last night. some christmas shopping at THE mall, dinner at earls [espresso love martini, baby!] and a late show - american gangster! the best part was sleeping in this morning...since the kids were having sleepovers at various grandma's houses!!! love my kids. love them more when I've had uninterrupted sleep.

and one crafty-type note/picture...altered clipboard/countdown to christmas dealy! felice is coming over to stamp tomorrow...happy!! I am starting to get into a bit of a christmas mood. I really love christmas, so regardless of no snow, I'll be happy to make some christmas cards tomorrow and begin all those christmas fun things!

phew!

wow! a long couple of days. I am feeling pretty good about everything though. got through a rememberance day with flying colours - I think we did good! it was really nice to see so many of our community members out to support our kids. lots of stress for yvonne & I...but it's done and it's all good.

and, I went to exercise today. I hurt. the good hurt.

all sorts of things

1. lost my wedding ring. it's kinda been a bad week on that level. I am just consoled that the big guy knows exactly where it is - and is the guy in charge of me. it's all okay.

2. ipp's are done.

3. remembrance day stuff is pretty much done. I can seriously rock a powerpoint presentation. supah cool!

4. have some stamping to do - will do after thursday!

5. school has been stressful - halloween week SUCKS at school. plus a time change - BRUTAL!

6. I started weight watchers [the online version] yesterday. 10 lbs by christmas. I am FINALLY feeling a bit motivated.

7. my house needs to be cleaned. if you come over, please ignore the dustbunnies.

8. I am feeling bad about my inability to answer the phone & emails. the last 2 weeks have been nuts and I am finally feel like I am recouping from it all.

9. computer is going nuts. viral issues. does that sound really pussy & icky??? well it should - this whole virus issue is ANNOYING!

10. when you eat your smarties do you eat the red ones last?
